This lot, named La Cascarilla, is produced by James Gonzales and his neighbors. It is named after their community, which shares the same name. In recent years, as specialty coffee buyers began to explore higher-quality lots in Cajamarca, James and his father recognized the opportunity to elevate their production. They started by planting Red and Yellow Caturra, followed by Geisha, all varieties renowned for their exceptional cup profiles.
James represents the new generation of Peruvian coffee farmers, bringing a forward-thinking approach to specialty coffee production. He is particularly ambitious and keen to learn more about fermentation techniques and their impact on cup quality.
James’s commitment to quality extends to his future plans. He aims to build a solar drying station to better control the drying phase, ensuring even greater consistency in his coffee.
