Guatemala – Villa Sarchi
According to Ricardo, our long-lasting direct trade partner in Guatemala, the goal of his plantation is to create a green gate to nature and good quality coffee. That’s why he named his farm Puerta Verde. For sure the views of luscious green mountain slopes are incredible, as well as the coffees growing there. The rich volcanic soil provides necessary nutrients and minerals for the healthy and productive coffee-trees, shaded under canopies of Grevillea trees which also protect the coffee from direct sunlight and provide important habitat for local birds and insects.
You might be familiar with our classic Guatemalan espresso. That one is from the bourbon variety, however the coffee you’re brewing right now is a Villa Sarchi, a dwarf-mutation of previously mentioned variety. On the surface you might expect them to taste similar but combined with slight variations in processing and roasting, this variety brings a whole different flavour profile. Think syrupy cherry cola, green apple with good structure in the body. Enjoy!
