Costa Rica – Volcan Azul
Volcan Azul is a truly remarkable coffee estate located in the West Valley region of Costa Rica and overseen by Alejo Castro. The fifth generation of his family tends to the land. Alejo is an incredibly knowledgeable farmer, and the estate has a rich history which can be clearly traced back to the late 19th century. Located on the slopes of the Poás Volcano they benefit from the rich and nutrient volcanic soil.
The farm produces a vast variety of cultivars and varietals, such as Catuai, Caturra, Obata, Villa Sarchi and Gesha. This coffee was dried using a combination of patio drying and mechanical dryers. The patio drying occurs at an elevation of 1.500 meters above sea level, where the cooler temperatures naturally slow down the drying process, enabling the beans’ aromas to develop more fully and richly.
In the cup you will find flavors of apple and maple syrup, making this a comforting and enjoyable cup.
